Exploring the Potential of Transient Receptor Potential: Troubleshooting Troublesome Calcium Thoroughfares in Biomedicine | 233-246 |
Ammad Ahmad Farooqi, Abuzar Kaleem, Muhammad Khalid Javeed, Qaisar Mansoor, Shahzad Bhatti [ +/- abstract ][ full text ]
Transient Receptor Potential-Canonical (TRPC) channels are the border guards residing in the supra-molecular assembly of plasma membrane. TRPCs represent a family of channels that have dual functions of store-operated and second messenger-operated channels in a diversity of cell types. Any disruption in the spatio-temporal organization drastically influences the calcium homeostasis. This review summarizes current interpretations on the infrastructure and characteristic divalent ions regulation in molecular anomalies. A specific targeting of these channels will enable us to get a step closer to personalized medicines.

Bioanalyzer provides combination of tools that are never assembled together. Software has list of tools that can be important for different researchers. The aim to develop this kind of software is to provide unique set of tools at one platform in a more efficient and better way than the software or web tools available. It is stand-alone application so it can save time and effort to locate individual tools on net. Flexible design has made it easy to expand it in future. We will make it available publicly soon.
SolDB: A Database of Solanum lycopersicum and Solanum tuberosum Primers | 255-262 |

SolDB is the Database of Solanaceae Family. It is an interactive, free online specialized database for Solanaceae family. Currently, it spans complete nucleotide sequences of expressed genes of Solanum lycopersicum and Solanum tuberosum along with their annotation. We have designed PCR oligonucleotide primer sequences for each gene, with their features and conditions given. This feature alone greatly facilitates researchers in PCR amplification of genes sequences, especially in cloning experiments. We also provided chloroplast genome section which gives access to fully sequenced plastid genomes and their annotations. Flexible database design, easy expandability, and easy retrieval of information are the main features of SolDB. The Database is publicly available at www.soldb.pakbiz.org.

Gamma Variate Analysis of Insulin Kinetics in Type 2 Diabetes | 263-270 |
Anthony Shannon [ +/- abstract ][ full text ]
The purpose of this paper is to offer a mathematically simple and theoretical based alternative model to existing techniques for the estimation of beta cell secretion of peptides. This is achieved by applying gamma variate analysis rather than cubic spline fitting techniques to measured insulin and glucose levels. The resulting fits between experimental and theoretical data are excellent. Cubic spline fitting methods can also give excellent results, though to some extent this is an artefact of these methods, which by their very nature give smooth fitting to experimental or plotted points. Unfortunately, spline fitting is very sensitive to the choice of knot points, the interval of measurement, and the accuracy of initial estimates of the parameters.
Prostate Cancer: Countdown to Choice between Stitch in Time and Eleventh Hour Begins | 271-278 |
Ammad Ahmad Farooqi, Sadia Rashid [ +/- abstract ][ full text ]
Androgen ablation therapy presumed to be an effective treatment for advanced prostate cancer (PCa) is relentlessly challenged. Remissions are impermanent and patients almost inescapably progress to become castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). CRPC is almost invincible and is the major stumbling block in the treatment. It is a dramatic shift of androgen receptor (AR) from normal activities to the oncogenesis. AR signaling is remarkably increased under an androgen-depleted environment. It utilizes a miscellany of mechanisms and pathways to compensate for the decreasing levels of androgens. These range from mutations in the receptor more like a business tactic to attract more clients, to the illegitimate crosstalks which promote the signaling. The review will encompass various mechanistic insights of the AR manipulations. Moreover efficacy of therapeutic interventions recently designed keeping in view the molecular hierarchy will be evaluated. |
