Four young researchers from IBPhBME-BAS with awards for excellent scientific projects

Forty-one young researchers from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences from nine scientific directions received diplomas for excellent accomplishment of projects under the Programme for support of young scientists and PhD students funded by BAS in 2017. Four of them belong to the team of the Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering. The prizes are awarded to projects that have resulted in particularly significant scientific contributions.

The awarding ceremony took place on 2 October 2019 in the National Archaeological Museum as an event in the annual programme for celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the establishment of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The diplomas were awarded by the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Acad. Julian Revalski in the presence of the Minister of Education and Science Mr. Krasimir Valchev.

The awarded projects coordinated by young researchers and PhD students from IBPhBME-BAS are:

• DFNP-17-134 “A study of flavonoids from Silybum marianum (milk thistle) to elucidate their mechanisms of pharmacological action through chemical similarity assessment with drugs from DrugBank database and molecular modelling” with project coordinator PhD student Antonia Diukendjieva and scientific advisor Corr. Member Ilza Pajeva from the “QSAR and Molecular Modelling” Dept.
• DFNP-17-138 “Investigation of the role of Photosystem II arrangement in the thylakoid membranes of higher plants for their susceptibility to drought stress” with project coordinator PhD student Nia Petrova and scientific advisor Assoc. Prof. Sashka Krumova from the “Biomacromolecules and biomolecular interactions” Dept.
• DFNP-17-132 “Electromyographic studies with purpose to use in rehabilitation with orthetic devices” with project coordinator Dr. Silvija Angelova and scientific advisor Prof. Rositsa Raikova from the “Motor Control” Dept.
• DFNP-17-140 “Development of an active elbow orthosis prototype” with project coordinator Assist. Prof. Simeon Ribagin from the “Bioinformatics and Mathematical Modelling” Dept. and scientific advisor Prof. Rositsa Raikova from the “Motor Control” Dept.
